This is a working build of the Half-Life 2 Beta that was stolen from Valve's servers back in September of 2003.

Compared with the final retail build of the game, there are many differences. There are several NPCs, weapons and other assets in the leaked files that didn't make it to the final version of the game, as well as huge, fundamental differences in the layout and design of almost every map, storyline elements and progression paths when compared to the final version.

Simply put - this is a build of Half-Life 2 circa 2003, so it represents HL2's development at that time.

You won't find the so-called "old storyline" within this version, because this version is dated after Valve's rework of the game that took place one year prior to the theft of the old version. If you wish to play these cut 2002 maps, download the WC Map Pack, as it contains several maps from the old storyline. This WC Map Pack can also be found in the downloads section.
