Hello. New to the forum.


I would want to port the HL2 Beta over to the original Xbox. Cause the retail version isn't a-lot modifiable and the source code for the beta was leaked so it can be placed onto the OG Xbox. I know that heavy modifications needs to be done but I don't care about revolutionary graphics because at-least it's playable.

I've had an idea of a Total Conversion mod for Half-Life 2 Xbox and I want it to be made at some point. The only way I could do that is to change and port over the beta engine. The retail version wasn't very mod friendly so I'm asking for some help. Like where's the script with the main loop?

And I think that putting a moddable Half-Life 2 into the Xbox could raise both the game's and console's reputation. Don't you think?

Don't you think this sounds... I don't know, a tad pointless?

The leak engine is super unstable (I don't think LeakNet's engine is publicly available, and the final TAP code is hard to come across now) and porting it over to the XBox would introduce a hell of more bugs on top of it.

It wouldn't really think there's any benefit to porting over the engine as you'd loose support to all of the final content assets and even if you were to port over the final game, the binaries for any mod would be completely incompatible rendering mod support impossible. No one in the community will EVER want to target the original XBox and making an original XBox exclusive HL2 mod would leave it dead in the water.

Plus, creating a new game upon stolen HL2 code is illegal.

This in my opinion sound like a great idea! For other things like If we could do this with Beta Mods that would be cool as well as TF2:Brotherhood, Half-Life Homebrew games that were originally mods and others.
Hello this is EveryCafe and I love the Combine Guard. He is probably the strongest Synth Valve every though of.

The Half-Life 2 on Xbox can run custom maps, but without lightmaps and displacement collision. And when did the beta get illegal to port over to the Xbox? The beta is worked on by fans and those didn't get into trouble for upgrading a force-leaked product. Besides I don't think they would care anymore unless they're hating on Console's way too much.

Half-Life 1 is ported over to the Xbox and that went well. Unless the beta engine itself is law enforced cause HL1X runs by Xash. Might just ask a Russian to make an engine which runs Half-Life 2 content.

And no I don't have or ever had a Reddit account.

Screamy, you're wrong. just beacuse Valve didn't do anything now doesn't mean that they're not caring for hl2beta that they will not pursue a legal action.

 for example: if Valve feel like their rights has been compromised by us they can cease and decist Витой and sue him. that's smply how it works they can be in the shadows right now planing to DMCA take down HL2BETA and Витой have to either cope with them or fight in a legal action.

another thing,porting hl2 beta will also be a copyright infringement, Витой can say that he was just archiving the past by showing hl2 unrealeased and leaked content to the public and could defend himself in court. in the porting case will be just moding the game.

i do not think there is any risk for screamy to do a copy for xbox..
mostly because it is not sure valve/steam has enough rights to forbid him .. [ moreover if he does it for free.. or using different packaging and names : like with tv "soaps" on cheap channels somme are like "the new adventures of superman" [ soon with star wars..] .
there was a great man that liked hl2 and ep 1 & 2 , he recreated all the maps : fakefactory cinematic mod.. ; he was distributing this freely...and i think that valve prefered to offer him a job as a mapper than using justice courts..
good mappers are hard to find.., that sad what they did because it killed my project of an opposing-force like hl2..   !cry
all these suckers [ except john carmacks ] that never give a file from their games to help "customers and fans" to start their own project ; are like sharks...
john carmack always gave source of its old engines and maps .. that explains why there is a recent quake2 RTX with a dedicated video card from nvidia..
the first things that did the new owner of id software ; was to turn all files of doom3 games into binaries.. so : no more edition of maps..
by now , as you can see with rage 2 ; rage [1] being the last game of idsoftware with jcarmack and its latest engine ; idsoftware is no longer able to produce engine for its games.. it uses one from unknowns...that are as buggy as hell or svencoops... [lol]

Can we get contact with Valve? Can we ask if it's okay so they're not gonna law-suit me and/or others? Surely Valve hasn't gone too corrupt and can allow a fan-port of a semi unfinished version of Half-Life 2 to come to a discontinued-by-the-industry Console.

It almost feels like the only one's interested in this port is from the Beta community. Lend me a hand and convince EMUxtras to assist in this if it works. Or just join EMUxtras if you're interested in Xbox homebrewing.

The project is going to be long dead before you get in contact with Valve, most likely. I mean, what even is the point of porting the beta to Xbox? The console has been unsupported for a while, it doesn't have any advantages over a PC (it has a bunch of disadvantages, even) and it's going to take a lot of time only you, seemingly, are willing to put in.

I think porting the Leaked HL2 to the XBOX port of HL2 would not work, and, would not be cool i guess

it's not a matter of contact, we never meant you will get sued for using hl2 as matter of fact Valve it's the few only studios that loves modding community see GMOD,tf and cs do you think Gmod would be on steam today?

i just meant they could sue you. but if they will do that... highly unlikely. i'm pretty sure it's more possible you will win a Dragon lore than getting sued by Valve over a mod.

just so we end this discussion.

it's unlikely that hl2beta will work on Xbox. it's a broken build without any support whatsoever to any console, porting it would be a pointless thing. yeah it would be cool and fun, but why?

the question it's Why/Who would create? not when will be created.

if you want this so much why don't you do it? or ask someone to help you port it.

sadly for you : Screamy ... i am not very good at mapping and does not have an xbox or ps2or4 ..
i prefer to edit the "entity" file.. that is the root of the map .. i did it a lot for svencoop..i also like to do edition of models.. of course i could "map" or "programs" but i find mapping not very cool or easy with current tool.. and current programming very too far from the real cpu language : assembler..
i dream of a computer booting efi prompt and having what is needed for it to be programmed.. even games like hl2 .. with direct access to the hardware.. no microsoft ..
a pc a la win98 with a real dos dos and softwares a la qemm386 for memory.. with windows NT ,,2000 , xp..7 8 10... the more it goes .. the less of the cpu users have..
quake 2 was able of running on 286 cpu while latest with rtx needs a 5 gigowatt cpu with 20 gigo of ddr4 and a 3 gigowatt psu... [ if i can joke about gigo .. like in back to the future 1955 ]
by the way i think porting to xbox is a bit of loosing time.. because the xbox360 will soon disappear..
amd is killing the bandwith with mainboards offering pcie 4 .. and amd is very cheap so that will hurts nvidia and intel that amd/ati has so good results with the latest cpu/gpu

these days i made the same with old hl ... by mixing to the original a lot of maps coming from others mods.. ; i do not want to spoil too much but i think i can say something about the ingredients..: maps & mods , plus the "Epic Ending With a Two Kings Battle" :

i mostly tested with op4 engine , with listen server or dedicated server ..all maps except few having some sequences are well running [ i used the dedicated server to test all maps in a row to see if i reach any limit [of models or memory.. like povc003 that cannot play under op4 because of the 512 models limit ] . i was forced to remove ba_canal1 , c1a4i , c4a3 , of0a0 , of1a5 , of2a3 , of3a2 because server goes off immediately . all others maps are passing in 12 h with a mp_timelimit of 2 .. [ i found that the dedicated server can handle these maps correctly if i set it with one player only.. but with one player it keeps on the same map... so it does not load and change models and maps automatically.. like i was able to do with svencoop mod ] [ if i use an other computer to connect to the pc running the dedicated opposing force server , then i get an error about maps being differents.. when there is one player.. when there are more slots the server crash with an error about the buffers not initialized...]
i sent emails to valve using their "job search" writer ... same with gearbox.. but these mother-f***s did not replied .. they started their business using french money but now they are as much , or even more racist than george bush or dumpy dumby trumpy  with french..
gaben or his gearbox friend are like the new "hera" at steam .. you know "georgina freewoman" that plays in VR like those sexual monkey girls of disneyzzz THAT ARE SEEN HAVING BIG PSYCHOLOGICALS AND SEXUALS troubles and misbehaviors after having been fired by the "former cartoon maker company" that is now the new home of star wars...

i joke a lot , but at the same time .. i am very disgusted by valve or gearbox.. i think of porting my 200 maps mod to the unreal engine.. or even none..
i released last year in 2019 that i was more logging to steam with a browser than the steam.exe...
that should come from the fact that despite my account that has all valve games and should had got others unknowns made in the future when i bought it... : no new games are made .. but mr gaben had recently became billionaire..
plus i find steam is very expensive.. even with its big rebates.. last day i saw mafia 2 &3 in bundlles at "very low price" of 20 or around euro... the same was possible at 2 or 3 euro with just buying keys .. like it is at steampowered..
so i wait and made up my mind... plus i play and have a lot of more fun with movies..
i mixed the two hobbit's trilogies in one 19 hours movie .. most of the job was to recreate the intro mixing these of the 6 movies..
