Beta content in valve shading papers?

I dont know if anyone has made a post about this yet at least i cant find, but while looking at beta stuff i did find this shading paper https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/apps/valve/2004/GDC2004_Half-Life2_Shading.pdf it seems to predate release by few months Are there any visible changes from the release of game? for instance i see there seems to be a map with floor and lights for testing radiosity normal mapping that i assume we dont have, there seems to be screenshot of a slightly earlier version of canals that i dont know if we have and i think the cave area is different from release, Has anyone found this before or has more details?

And yeah, there is beta antlion texture, and I think the cave zone is from E3 2003.
