On August 5, 2021, during the #BreakingTheBar event, we beat the peak of players in HL2: 16 101.

To celebrate, I decided to publish this video.

"e3_techdemo_01" is a removed map from Half-Life 2 Beta.

Surely it should have been shown at E3 2003.

It consists of 8 different pieces of maps, which can only be accessed by noclipping...

This Half-Life 2 Beta trailer was made from gameplay footage I myself recorded in late 2020.

It contains several clips that I particularly appreciate.

Some moments are cinematic while others are more traditional gameplay oriented.

It's a cool little edit, show it to your friends and Cut Content fans from Valve games!

In d1_town_01, this red valve produces a weird sound of squeaking.
But that's not all, the sound changes, or slows down, when you block it.

How does it work exactly?

e3_strider:

"e3_strider" is a map from the Half-Life 2 Beta that was shown at E3 2002.

It's a "Streetwar" level set in an older version of City 17.

The action is located near the Citadel.

A battalion of Striders hunts down Rebels, destroying everything in their path.

Gordon Freeman, our favorite scientist, must make his way to Alyx, in the sewers...

But a strange creature is hiding there - a Hydra!

"This is how it always starts."

"d1_trainstation_01" is a map well known to all since it appears in the real Half-Life 2.

However, it looks very different in the Beta of Half-Life 2, although we recognize certain aspects.

First of all, the intro in the form of a dream with the G-Man does not exist here.

The station is not quite built the same way.

Several Beta paths seen here disappeared in the final version, although there are some leftovers.

Barney's reveal and dialogue with Kleiner are clearly at the prototype stage.

Obviously all the dialogues are very different from the final version, the Citizens talk and complain a lot more here.

It should be noted that the Beta "d1_trainstation_01" contains the teleport sequence of "d1_trainstation_05" and the combat sequence of the real "d1_trainsation_06" !

There is a loading at 07:30, but it is still the same level in the video: there is a round trip.

The true citizen appreciates the comforts of City 17, but uses discretion."

"c17_01_13" is one of my favorite Half-Life 2 Beta maps.

This is one of the oldest versions of City 17, this map dating back to early 2001.

Everything here contributes to the dark and oppressive atmosphere of City 17.

The "Consulcasts" repeat their propaganda over and over.

The Metropolice keeps watch over the Gasmask Citizens, using their Combots.

"They're here for you." That's what you can read on the posters pretty much everywhere.

An APC is even deployed in the neighborhood, probably for dissuasive purposes.

A train passes from time to time.

Who knows what they are carrying there?

Let's avoid asking too many questions here, after all...

cit01

"cit01" is a small map from Half-Life 2 Beta.

Indeed, it is an early version of the scene of which Freeman is temporarily placed in the custody of Breen, in the Citadel.

In this map, no scenery, but four characters:
Judith Mossman, Wallace Breen, Eli Vance and Alyx Vance.
Of all the NPCs mentioned, only Alyx doesn't speak.

Besides, the script is quite different.
No doubt Valve was still working on the scenario at that time.

It's not "from" beta, it was made by Vitoy to showcase the voicelines.
