Nihilanth's blood texture in HL:source?

I recently played all the way through half life source beta included in the mega build and I found that this is what Nihilanth's blood texture looks like, who is this?  I know its probably some developer joke but it was so weird when I noticed.

Thats Jay Stelly, his face is also on the obsolete icon, it was used as a placeholder particle and then put on the obsolete icon.

So it seems the blood there is just using a placeholder particle.
