Probably something to do with the animations - Does the model have acts for default anims (ACT_IDLE, ACT_RUN) or just for specific weapons (ACT_RUN_SMG1, etc.)? It could also be the hand-signals but if you're using the stock beta code that probably wouldn't be it.

Here I made a 1 in 1 remake of this screenshot with all existing texture remakes.
Except I forgot to give myself a HEV suit.

Strangely, I just now figured out that the crashing was related to me using the Combine soldier as a playermodel.

You forgot to disable AI ;)
The soldier's pose looks very familiar. The pants look dark green and they have grey knee pads. The sachal looks like the unused texture in the conscript texture folder. Is the screenshot the highest resolution available? It looks very compressed since it was likely resized for the presentation.
I saw the complete presentation in PDF form but can't find it again, anyone have a link?

That screenshot in your quote isn't the 2000 version, but if you are talking about the screen that OP posted, The One EpicPlayer is making a model recreation that looks pretty good.

OK, I watched Lars Linden's presentation and almost choked with laughter. He just LITERALLY blurred combine soldiers in Photoshop. I understand that he can get a complaint from the Valve, or he simply does not want to be bothered by some "archaeologists", but damn it is so funny. I especially love how he poorly blurred the second combine soldier, it feels like he crawls out of nowhere.
Don't like HL2 beta actually. But the visualization is pretty cool tho.

something people forgot to talk here is that ai disabled displaying: human_hull in that combine soldier,
is it the name of the  old combine or the ai nodes?

That's just displaying what info_node type is on screen. Ai_show_connect and ai_nodes are both on in the screenshot, so that's why you see that.

As for the model, that is outrageously cool. The port on discord looks awesome, but I wonder if anyone would ever put the HECU Combine Elite or Conscript anims on the soldier just for kicks?

Also, is this direct proof that the Conscript model is based on/similar too that shown older model? If so that will make the port in discord even better.

My remake uses the skeleton and parts of the Conscript's mesh in combination with the Combine Elite's ammo pouches and animations, so it's a unique mix of different models combined into one.

This is looking great, but I think the arms and legs need to be made thicker. It just looks like hes wearing a shirt and not a heavily armored jacket or whatever it is the soldiers usually wear.
That work to recreate the design on his left arm is stellar though. Wonderful stuff

Absolutely wonderful that there is already recreations! I am guessing they just used the solider AI form the original Half Life with some other tweaks.  !amazed

WTF? Did he go back and edit this? I even found a version without a HL2 slide at all.
I found a couple versions with the presentation date and it was presented May 25th to the 27th in 2002. It's also related to this book released April 25th 2002.
Found a clean PDF.

He most likely edited it after the fact, so there were probably a ton of clean copies on the internet. Oops.
