Half-life: Alyx without VR

after 10 minutes.. of video .. i find it "super boring" 
but i am happy for those who play css and other css:orange ..the new engine will be made for them ..
the vr thingy is just a kind of mouse inside the game .. instead of pressing "arrow keys" to move.. it looks you point and click..so that is not really "immersive" as a game..
just my opinion.. i would have liked more actions and mostly more aliens.. as story is wrote by people never having played hl or mod..here is the fuck of "georgina follow freemen" ;']

I don't think judging a game by watching a gameplay video, and a speedrun video of all things, is a good idea. Find an HMD and play it if you can. Trust me, it is much more immersive.

sorry not so much.. i did not liked so much the "main one" : with some "All-XXX" butt coming sitting onto my "belly"
speedruns made with hl2 and laters are not "very nice" : not showing so much gameplay as with hl games or mods .. or others quakes ones..
i was hoping to see more actions..than a vort looking in "his home" searching somethings in his "bedroom" or so ..i did not ended watching it because movie was reseted...and even after 10 minutes of the real game . i hope more "actions or surprises" especially if i paid a lot of thousands $ to have the "sufficient hardware" to play "this"
beside the "VR" that cost around $1000 or up to $2000 or more.. you need a very powerfull computer.. with one or two recent gfx...: that means a minimum of $1000 or even more for a full computer .. $3000 or more.. .. or course a pc of the 1998 looks like a teapot beside the one of nowadays  that with a large tv screen looks like a car [in size ] .. but only if you have the money and electricity..
so like i wrote : the engine looks updated ..but except for css : that happens in cities...there is nothing so new.. no funky monsters like in hl or opposing force..
monsters had a large part in the success of the games ..they were "new" during all the games beside the high numbers of chapters.. by now we have zombies + vorts + headcrabs only all along..quickly boring

It's unfortunate how tech is priced outside of the US but your "estimates" are way up there mate. You can create a VR-ready rig with 500$ (2 recent gfx? What are you on about? You need a singular GTX 1060 as a minimum requirement, which is hardly a recent graphics card). Also spending 1000$-2000$ on a headset? What headset even is priced 2000$? I'm playing this on a 230$ Odyysey+. Now you might say the game runs best on a Valve Index, but guess what buddy, premium is always pricey.

Also you're forgetting the weapon upgrades, the newly introduced Xen fauna, THE COMBINE. This is the first HL game where you're literally in City 17, and not controlling someone who is in City 17. This is what I meant about judging a game by watching its speedrun: you're still traversing on foot, shooting headcrabs, fighting the Combine, etc... All regular Half-Life stuff. What makes the difference is how you do it. You can activate a grenade, use a prop as a baseball bat to shoot the grenade, and kill enemies. You can catch enemy grenades, with your actual hand, and use it against them. Overall, you're doing the same stuff but it's much, much more immersive. NEVER judge a book by its cover, it's only going to hurt you in the long run.

there are two kind of nvidia 1060 ... : another "good idea from nvidia marketing to fool people..and 99% of customers that want to spare money..
the 3 Gb that has half of the ram of the 6 G.... and half of the "same" gpu... i have bought one second hand 1060 on ebay for staying beside my two rx 480 8 G and do the physx or cuda in game or softwares...[ that can be useful for some "shit" : a nvidia ]
[all them 3 are offline after my lga 2011 board is dead.. i found on ebay a large stock with new mainboard dual cpu lga 1366 ..so my brand new computer is more than ten years old..   : i am french and in france... [ [ [ of course ] ] ] big rich country number 5 in the "economic world" where a lot of people are starving and without any computers.. ..   we have a lot of jews in paris and in tv and administration..they need so much high salaries like the football team of the same city : there is none left.. may be you have seen riots in paris with people having YELLOW JACKETS..for roads.. ]"8
i think i ll buy an amd board sooner or later.. but i am am happy with this board and by now i do videos and still play hl .. i work my giant mod.. that is going very well ... beside i still have found no dev for the dll or mapper for reworking few maps.. i ll do that if that needs it ;']

i also read that you can play it in a chair.. that looks cool.. but i feel that if you want to live the game like in virtual reality..you have to to have a place looking like the game .. with stairs wall objects..that you can catch and use.. like jumping on the floor taking cover behind a wall ..

so the real level of interactions is very low..
virtual reality is not a new concept , the main "bug" is the cost of "the interacting place"
for the 3d rendering that is very interesting, that is very cool for medicine and operations made by robots .. or lasers..

I understand zoogor, although he overstated in the prices, a pc to run HL: Alyx in poor/third world countries go around 1500$(note: when I use $ here I'm not using the dollar or any currency )
just the pc and the VR set from the valve in some countries (including Brazil, my country) are listed unavailable, so it's impossible to buy in that currency, I also had this problem too, being a teenager not having your own money to buy the things you want, having to wait until your parents bought for you, or had to find a part-time job that had the general governmental requirements to run a job to a minor. it sucks to be a kid that wants something and you can't afford it.

now about the movement on HL: Alyx. Zoogor you're wrong. hl:Alyx IT'S NOT A POINT & CLICK GAME HL:A uses all VR controls styles...

Unfortunately, such is the case in most 3rd world countries. I myself had the chance of getting a new GPU while I was abroad, but now I'm back in my home country because of covid-19 concerns. Most HMD's are listed unavailable, and second hands go from ridiculous prices, even the ones that are supposed to be "budget". But I'd assume this is nothing new, Half-Life 2 had (arguably) the best graphics of its generation and it forced a lot of people to upgrade as well.

Ok, there is a guy who made a patch for HL:A to play it without VR.

Since he is from Russia, I'll roughly translate you about the tutorial:
1. You need to copy HL:A to another folder so that it will independent and files that you copy will no delete by steam updates.
2. You need to copy this files to root game folder to get a various cut dev capabilities, including -novr. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZTslHOLEEDWNccrLY3IeEEbI9LyeA_xH
3. And finally, you need to copy this files to root game folder and launch the game through .bat file.

Now with that patch you have:
1. A fully fixed weapons from HL2.
2. A ability to interaction with surrounding objects by pressing E button.
3. A ability to jump normally.
4. A flashlight.
5. A console, that you can enable with ~ button.

Also, he made Hammer, Source 2 Filmmaker, Asset Viewer etc. to work with HL:A but I'm lasy to translate it, maybe I'll do it later when you ll interested for this.

with hl2 : valve changed from gcf to vpk to extracted to "new vpk" and will surely be back soon with a new gcf...or vpk format..  at each "game" it was reinventing the wheel with "new engine" by now nearly all hl2 games are using the same engine..  except newest like black mesa that uses its owns...but interrest no longer anyone after 15 years of "polishing"[lol]

as you are from foreign countries .. may be you should use the "shipito" website [ with vpn may be ] that gives you an address in the usa or europe for free.. for me buying in the usa can be very very economic.. like 50 % rebate with delivery included.. [delivery being quite expensive]
