Correct way to compile alpha HL1 zombie .smd's?

I've been trying to compile the alpha HL1 zombie sources that was leaked last year, but I couldn't get the old funny walk animation to work. It just doesn't show up. When I tried to load it into Blender using the Blender Source Tools (which has been quite friendly to HL1 .smd's from my experience), the plugin just gave out a bunch of errors. Is there something wrong with the .smd/.qc, or am I just not doing it the right way?
