Hmmm, I wonder why the unfinished leaked Half-Life 2 beta won't work on a Mac unlike retail Half-Life 2 that was ported to Mac in 2010, 6 years after it released.

Could always recompile the beta for mac, if you really wanted to play it on a mac

I remember that thedoctor45 is Mac user and he made a build of HL2 Beta that works on this OS. He released it on Facepunch back when our website was still inactive.
You could contact him and ask him to re-release his build.
