The former writer of the Half-Life series, Marc Laidlaw,  wrote a revelatory post on his personal site today, called "Epistle 3". With it's title and contents strongly relating to Half-Life 3, fans believe that this post contains some kind of conclusion to the long-awaited Half-Life finale, Half Life 2: Episode 3. Although it is unlikely to be the current plot of the yet-unnanounced Half-Life 2 sequel, it is quite possible that this rough draft is based upon an old version of Episode 3's storyline.

For an unspecified reason, Laidlaw changed all of the character's names for his post; for example, he used "Gertie Fremont" instead of "Gordon Freeman", but it's clear to see that these fake names are linked to the characters found in the Half-Life franchise.. Here's the original text from Marc Laidlaw's website:

If you can't figure out the actual names of the character's, here's an edited version of the above text, corrected by Jackathan, with all names changed to the proper ones:

The blog post also alludes to Laidlaw's retirement and his personal story working in the gaming industry. Laidlaw bids farewell to players of the Half-Life series; it is as much an equal measure Laidlaw's personal eulogy for both the Half-Life series and his time in the gaming industry, as it is a final demonstration of the Half-Life 3 plot.

In conclusion, this "leak" represents a huge revelation for Half-Life fans. Given Valve's silence on the matter of the final Half-Life game, the fact that we now have a storyline to read through is incredible. Although this storyline seems incomplete to say the least, and may not be current given Valve's tendency to constantly evolve their stories and game assets, it is a turning point for Half-Life fans; we finally have some sort of closure, even if it is brief. It might not be what we wanted, as it is certainly a bittersweet ending, but it allows us to put Gordon Freeman's story to rest for the final time - at least, until Valve says otherwise.
