Now that I think about it, the cat model probably isn't actually a reference to Barney's "that cat" dialogue in Half-Life 2. It's most likely the opposite. Modeler probably got bored and made this, and Laidlaw thought it was funny enough to reference it in the game.

The Garloid are just textures called egglayer, it seems to be a cut Ep2 creature, not an npc so likely a prop.. The archive contains pictures for most of these except for the Hl1 models.

The Garloid (Egglayer) textures have legs, it was probably an NPC. As to how it looked, I believe it was going to be a revival of the cut Antlion Birther given the similarities between the texture and the Birther concept art.
